America (Circa 1960s): During the 1960's and early 1970s, most televisions had only 12 channels (VHF channels 2-13)...
Where I lived, we received three channels, on a good day. Then one day in about 1970, my father brought home a little box with a circular antenna on top. A round knob on the front was marked "14...24...34...44...54...64...74...83."
Could it be? almost 70 more channels? Alas, no. I eagerly turned the TV to channel 3, then spun the dial. Only 3 new stations were to be found. But there was a saving grace. Channel 44, an independent station, showed reruns of Hogans Heroes and Lost in Space.
This was far superior to the network and educational fare delivered on the VHF channels. At last, something good to watch!
